Amazon RDS for Db2 introduces hourly licensing from IBM through AWS Marketplace

Amazon RDS for Db2 is now offering an hourly licensing option for those who want to “IBM-prove” their databases, allowing you to pay for what you use, when you use it. This is perfect for businesses with “unpredictable workloads” or those who want to avoid the hassle of “over-provisioning.”

You can choose to “BYOL” (Bring Your Own License) or “IBM-up” a new license through AWS Marketplace. And if you’re in the retail industry, you can take advantage of this new option to “IBM-prove” your database during the holiday season, rather than “predict-ing” how much licensing you’ll need and “pre-purchasing” them for peak capacity.

Db2 license fees are charged by IBM through AWS Marketplace and will appear under the AWS Marketplace section on your AWS invoice, which are in addition to your RDS cost. Amazon RDS for Db2 makes it easy to “IBM-prove” your databases in the cloud.

To learn more about this “IBM-proving” opportunity, visit the AWS Documentation or read this step-by-step blog to get started.
